Jonathan Bebb may go to less restrictive facility

An Athens man found innocent by reason of insanity in the 2007 stabbing death of his father might be granted a move from a maximum security treatment center to a less-restrictive environment. However, it does not appear that a move to Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare in Athens is in the cards.

Amanda Mills and Tyler Bell were married on April 28 in a 3:30 p.m. wedding ceremony at Athens First United Methodist Church conducted by Pastor Wendy Lybarger. A reception followed in the Walter Hall Rotunda on the Ohio University campus.

Athens M.S. students take honors on State Science Day

Athens Middle School students, from left, Meredith Suhr, Derek Demel and Kate Dispenza, participated in State Science Day on May 5 at Ohio State University. Eighth-grader Kate received an Excellent rating with her project “Bioremediation of herbicide glyphosate”; seventh-grader Meredith received an Excellent rating for her project “What factors affect the darkness of coffee?”; and seventh-grader Derek received a Superior rating with his project “The geometry of bridges: Design, efficiency and cost.” In addition, Derek received the following engineering awards: First place for Excellence in Engineering, second place for theAmerican Society of Highway Engineers Award, and third place for the Excellence in Civil Engineering Project award. He also was nominated to apply for the Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars).

OU physiology professor named Educator of the Year

Richard Klabunde, Ph.D., associate professor of physiology at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, has received the 2012 Arthur C. Guyton Physiology Educator of the Year award from the American Physiological Society.
